Matthew Tibbs is a sound designer working in live performance, film, and advertising. He is Chair of Theatre Design and Production and Faculty at University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and lives with Beth and sons Lucas and Adrian in Cincinnati, Ohio. A native of Oregon, Matthew has most recently lived in Muncie, Indiana and Salt Lake City.
Matthew lives for combining music with motion, for smashing together different areas of study including performance art, history, architecture, poetry, and literature. Matthew loves playing soccer, working with his hands, creaky analog technologies, watching film, and talking shop with other artists, creatives, and craftspeople.
Matthew’s work has been seen at film festivals nationally and internationally. Advertising has been seen on the West Coast in local and regional television markets. Matthew’s theatre work has been seen on stages primarily across the West and Midwest, including Utah Shakespeare Festival, Indiana Repertory Theatre, the Clarence Brown Theatre, and Great River Shakespeare Festival.
Prior to the CCM position, Matthew spent five years teaching at Ball State University and three years as Resident Sound Designer for Pioneer Theatre Company and Adjunct Faculty at University of Utah. Matthew has taught as visiting faculty at Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR and as a graduate assistant at CCM.
He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from CCM in Theatrical Sound Design and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts from George Fox University.
